Work Breakdown Structure in Zoho Projects

The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) establishes a hierarchy in project management. By breaking down projects into measurable goals, project managers have a clear roadmap towards the end objective. The project is broken down into smaller, more manageable deliverables. These deliverables can be managed efficiently and with better control.

 
Zoho Projects helps managers establish a Work Breakdown Structure in their projects. The hierarchy provides users with goals that need to be accomplished and the tasks that need to be performed to achieve the said goals.

The main components of Zoho Projects Work Breakdown Structure are as follows:

Phases: 

Phases are the major goals or phases in a project. Completing a phase takes users a step closer to project completion. A phase can be assigned to a DRI and tracked by setting a start and end date.
 
The progress of the phase can be viewed from the list view. The multi-functional Gantt chart provides a visual representation of the progress.

For a Construction project the following can be considered as typical phases. 
  1. Pre-Construction phase
  2. Design phase
  3. Procurement phase

Task Lists

The next component in the WBS hierarchy is a Task List. Task Lists are a set of activities that need to be completed. A collection of task lists makes a milestone. Task lists can be tracked from the list view and also on the Milestone Gantt chart.
 
Eg., For the Pre construction phase, the task lists would be as given below:
  1. Project Initiation
  2. Site analysis
  3. Permits

Tasks

Tasks are the main activities in a project. Tasks are assigned to the users. Users work on their tasks and mark them complete.
 
For eg., the tasks under the Project initiation task list would be as given below:
  1. Define Project scope
  2. Assemble Project team
  3. Conduct feasibility study

Subtasks

Subtasks break a task down into smaller units of work. These can also be assigned to users and go through various stages until completion.
 
For eg., the subtasks for Define Project Scope would be as given below:
  1. Set Project Objective
  2. Analyze budget constraints
  3. Set project timelines
