Tip of the week 35 - Etiquettes of email marketing that always give you results

While sending out email campaigns, there are times where you, as an email marketer, just stop and think–why do you follow certain etiquettes for better results? You don't know the answer but you still follow them because it's been practised and accepted by email marketers across the world.

The major best practices you follow will definitely include adding relevant subject line. You also use responsive email templates with a tint of personalization to test and preview before sending it out. And most importantly, you include the unsubscribe link.

Now, here's a brief on why you follow the etiquettes of email marketing, and how they always deliver the best results.

1. Subject line: Email marketing aims to create high engagement and reach for your brand. Good engagement means your emails should be read by the receiver. For your emails to be read, your subject line should be strong. It gives recipients an idea on what to expect in the email. If it's interesting and meets their needs, they will open your email.

2. Responsive templates: We've accepted technology a lot that there are chances where people read emails in multiple devices. This must be taken care of before sending out your email campaigns. And, this is why responsive templates (emails that adjust to any screen) become important in your email marketing strategy.

3. Personalization: The effectiveness of your email campaigns depends on personalization. The more you personalize your email, the unique it turns out to be, leading to higher click rates. The details you gathered from your contacts shouldn't go in vain. Your contact details help you gain better results if you use it for personalization in email marketing.

4. Unsubscribe link: You have to consider the likes and dislikes of your customers. With an unsubscribe button you learn to respect the decision of your contacts, helping you to maintain a clean list. And to avoid landing into serious problem with regard to your IP and domain reputation, you give the unsubscribe button.

5. Test and preview: Whether you are creating an email from scratch or using a pre-designed template for sending out emails, it doesn't matter. Testing your emails and previewing it will help you find if your emails are being clipped, properly aligned, etc. This helps to improve your email marketing efforts.

In today's market, the importance of customer behavior is astounding, with a vast amount of research and resources going into finding how customers make decisions. If crafting content for emails, getting creatives done, and running email campaigns is your love, then unsubscribes are the heartbreakers.  You can save your emails from being unsubscribed/trashed by adding a proper subscription-preferences option in your emails (works best at the time of signup). Giving subscribers the option to choose what they want to receive from you and decide how often (frequency of the emails) your emails should hit their inboxes will increase the reach of your campaigns manifolds.
