Keep it short
Over the past two weeks, we've been discussing why
setting survey goals are important and why you
shouldn't force your respondents to answer your questions. This week, we'll talk about how long your questions should be.
Tip for the week:
avoid asking long and leading questions
Long questions can easily bore your respondents, causing them to lose interest and only finish half of your survey—or skip it entirely! Keeping your questions short and crisp keeps respondents interested and encourages them to answer every question. And don't forget to break your survey into pages, so your respondents don't need to keep scrolling.
Leading questions subtly direct respondents to answer in the way you want them to, and this can compromise your survey results—which can then affect business decisions. Include more open-ended questions that can be answered without any bias. Also try to avoid questions that require your respondents to type long answers.
