InteGreat 02: Integrate Zoho Creator with Clickatell




Hi everyone,

 

Today, we'll look at how to integrate your Zoho Creator app with Clickatell. Many of you need to regularly send SMS notifications to your users when a Form is submitted, or based on a specific set of criteria. For example, you might need to send a reminder for a task, or update the customer about an order status, or alert your customer when a payment is due. The solution is to either use the default SMS connection provided by Zoho Creator or create a new connection with any of the supported SMS providers you have an account with. Zoho Creator supports:


  • Twilio
  • Clickatell
  • Screen Magic
  • ClockWorkSMS
  • Hoiio
Let's go over how a Zoho Creator app can be configured to use Clickatell's SMTP API to send SMSes:

1. Create an account with Clickatell.

First and foremost, you need to create an account with Clickatell. All you need to do is provide your details and an account name to get started.




2. Generate the API key in Clickatell.

 

Once you've created an account, you'll need to generate an API key to establish a new connection with Zoho Creator. You can find the generated API key in the sections highlighted in the screenshot (under SMS API).



3. Set up the new connection in Zoho Creator.

 Here's how to add a new connection:


  1. Go to Settings on your Creator homepage and click Add Connection.

  2. Then, in the Service drop-down choose an SMS provider from the list of service providers listed in the Add Connections page. In this case, you can choose Clickatell.

  3. Finally, you need to specify a unique connection name and enter the other parameter values, like username, password, account id, and API key. 

Then click on Submit.




You can now view the newly added connection on the Connections page.




4. Write a sample function to test the connection.

You can write a script—as shown in the below screenshotto trigger an SMS to any valid phone number. Check here for the Clickatell task syntax. 



Now, you can use the same connection to trigger SMS notification on Form submission—just go to the SMS notification settings available in the GUI as explained here.

Here are a few things to remember:

  • The phone number should be without + country code followed by the number.

  • Make sure you do not have DND activated on the destination phone number.

  • If you want to send SMS notifications to multiple phone numbers you can generate a list of phone numbers with comma as a delimiter.
